CANFIELD, Ohio – In celebration of In-Demand Jobs Week, the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center Adult Career Center is hosting an open house Tuesday.

The event, which will begin at 6 p.m., is designed to highlight career training opportunities available to adult learners in the region. The first week of May is designated as In-Demand Jobs Week, a statewide celebration of jobs, industries and skills that are in high demand across Ohio.

The open house will be at the MCCTC Adult Career Center, 7300 N. Palmyra Rd, and will offer prospective students, families and community members the opportunity to explore a variety of hands-on career programs set to begin in the fall. Featured training programs include skilled trades, health care, veterinary assistant, firefighting, EMS and the adult diploma program.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the school’s labs and facilities, meet with instructors and staff and speak with community partners. Live demonstrations will give visitors a look at what students experience in the classroom.

One highlight of the evening will be a demonstration by the Hannah E. Mullins School of Practical Nursing, which will showcase its pediatric mannequin and share details about its upcoming move to the MCCTC campus this fall.

The Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition will offer guests the opportunity to try a virtual welding experience and participate in giveaways.

Other organizations participating in the event include the Mahoning Columbiana Training Association, which will provide information on tuition assistance; Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates, which will offer insight into career paths in high-demand industries; and Salem Hospital, which will host live CPR demonstrations and discuss health care career opportunities.

Visitors can also connect with the MCCTC financial aid and student services coordinator to learn about FAFSA and financial aid options, and explore adult basic education, ESOL classes and GED preparation through the Aspire Program.

Angels for Animals will be onsite with adoptable pets available to meet and greet attendees.

The open house aims to provide a welcoming environment for adults considering a return to education or a career change, as well as recent or soon-to-be high school graduates exploring hands-on training options after graduation, and to showcase the resources available to help them succeed.
