CANFIELD, Ohio – The Mahoning County Career & Technical Center will host the Ohio Northeast Regionals SkillsUSA Competition on Friday.

The event will bring together students from 25 schools across northeastern Ohio, offering a full day of competition, skill demonstrations and recognition of vocational talent.

Superintendent John Zehentbauer highlighted the importance of the event.

“SkillsUSA provides students with an invaluable opportunity to demonstrate their skills and dedication to their chosen career paths,” he said. “Hosting this competition allows us to showcase the incredible talent and commitment of career and technical education students while reinforcing the importance of hands-on learning in preparing them for future success.”

The competition will feature more than 800 student competitors across 30 different skill categories, including Collision Repair, Cosmetology, Crime Scene Investigation, IT Services, Welding, Criminal Justice, CNC Milling & Technician, Medical Terminology, Photography and more.

Several offsite competitions also will take place. IBEW Local 64 will host the electricity competition, and the TeamWorks competition will be held at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

With more than 1,000 attendees expected – including students, educators, parents, industry professionals and local legislators – the event will serve as a hub for networking, collaboration and career inspiration.

As a national organization, SkillsUSA is dedicated to preparing the next generation of skilled professionals by equipping students with leadership, employability and technical skills. Through structured training and competition, SkillsUSA ensures students are workforce-ready and engaged citizens.

The competition will begin at 8 a.m., with students tackling their respective challenges. The event will conclude with an awards ceremony at 12:30 p.m., where top competitors will be recognized.
