YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The John J. McDonough Museum of Art at Youngstown State University will open its fall season with four exhibitions running Sept. 2 through Oct. 25.

The shows are: “In_A_Sense” by Arron Foster, “Landscape as a Form of Knowledge” by Aislinn Janek, “Negus Weighting on a Miracle” by Michael Boyd Roman, and “June 13th” by Justin Sorensen. A reception with the artists will be held Sept. 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the museum.

Foster, an assistant professor of art at Kent State University at Stark, explores shared interpretation of physical spaces through printmaking and installations. Janek, a New York-based artist and Youngstown State alumna, examines memory and landscape through painting and sewing. Roman, an assistant professor at Oberlin College & Conservatory, blends hip-hop, art history and religious iconography in works addressing representations of Black masculinity. Sorensen, an Ohio-based artist, presents work influenced by the Chinese handscroll format, considering how technology affects perception.

All exhibitions and the reception are free and open to the public. The McDonough Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
