YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mayor-elect Derrick McDowell announced his picks for three key cabinet positions in his administration, retaining one member from past administrations.

Kyle Miasek, finance director since 2018, will remain in the post under McDowell, the mayor-elect said in a news release issued Tuesday afternoon. Miasek had served as deputy finance director for 12 years before being named to the top job.

In addition, McDowell named Adam Buente, senior assistant law director, as his new law director, and Jonathan Huff, civil service administrator since 2012, as his chief of staff.

In a news release dated Nov. 14, McDowell announced plans to name his law director, finance director and chief of staff by Nov. 21, phase one of his strategic approach, he said. In a follow-up release Nov. 21, he postponed those announcements until Tuesday and said he planned to name his police and fire chiefs by Dec. 12.

“This is truly an exciting time, full of newfound hope for our City and I am very pleased with the team we are building to lead Youngstown,” McDowell said in Tuesday’s news release. “These top-level professionals all have exceptional qualifications and competencies, but even more importantly, they all share in the vision needed to take care of the people, who take care of our people.”

McDowell is still interviewing for other key cabinet posts as part of the second phase of his process, including his police and fire chiefs.
