HERMITAGE, Pa. – Mercer County Food Bank will celebrate the opening of the county’s first emergency food pantry at Grace Chapel Community Church, 4075 Lamor Road.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday to celebrate the opening of the pantry.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to expand our partnership with Grace Chapel Community Church to reach neighbors needing emergency food assistance,” said Rebecca Page, executive director of Mercer County Food Bank. “We appreciate their collaboration to provide additional access to food to neighbors with emergent needs.”
The emergency food pantry operates on a weekly basis and is designed as a one-time assistance resource to help fill critical gaps within the food assistance network. It provides those in need with enough food to sustain them until they can be connected to a traditional pantry. The pantry includes a variety of shelf-stable items, as well as fresh produce and meat when available.
Pantry hours vary weekly, and those seeking emergency food assistance are encouraged to contact Bailey Shepard at Mercer County Food Bank at 724 981 0353, ext. 105, for availability and scheduling.
“Grace Chapel Community Church is humbled at the opportunity to serve local families in need of food assistance by helping to fill the gap when people can’t access other aid offered by our community,” said Aaron Lego, lead pastor at the church. “We are blessed to be in a position both geographically and spiritually to love and care for those in need. We are excited for the partnership with Mercer County Food Bank, and after a lengthy time of working through logistics, are pleased to be able to offer this as an avenue for our community families.”
