SHARON, Pa. – Mercer County Food Bank will receive $40,000 through the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to purchase food for its MilitaryShare program.
The program provides nine private food distributions annually for veterans and military personnel and their families at designated sites throughout Mercer County.
“This funding will help the Mercer County Food Bank serve more than 600 of our veterans in need across our community,” Rep. Parke Wentling, R-7th, said in announcing the grant funding, which is part of $804,973 in grants awarded from the Veterans’ Trust Fund.
The fund operates through online donations from Pennsylvanians, as well as donations when applying for or renewing driver’s licenses, photo IDs or motor vehicle registrations. The fund also receives proceeds from private donations and the sale of the Honoring Our Veterans and Honoring Our Women Veterans license plates.
Every dollar donated to VTF goes directly to fund grants that benefit veterans, according to a news release.
