SHARON, Pa. – Mercer County Food Bank and First Baptist Church held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday to commemorate the expansion of their long-standing partnership with a weekend pantry, located at 301 W. State St.
The weekend food pantry operates monthly and helps fill critical service gaps, currently serving as the only choice pantry available for those seeking food assistance on Saturdays, a news release states.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to expand our partnership with First Baptist Church to reach neighbors needing food assistance on the weekend,” said Rebecca Page, executive director of Mercer County Food Bank. “We appreciate the church’s willingness to help support our neighbors by filling gaps within our service hours,” Page said.
The pantry provides a variety of shelf-stable items, as well as fresh produce and meat when available. Pantry hours are from 10 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of each month.
“The need is great in our community, and we are privileged to have our partnership with Mercer County Food Bank to meet those needs,” Pastor Harley Williams said. “One of the missions of First Baptist Church is to be the hands and feet of Jesus by meeting the emotional, spiritual and physical needs of those in our community. Mercer County Food Bank is a valuable resource in allowing us to meet those physical needs of families in our neighborhood.”
