YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University on Monday announced the appointment of Sara Fleet Michaliszyn as the new dean of the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services, effective immediately.
Michaliszyn has served as interim dean since 2024 and has dedicated much of her academic career to YSU, contributing to education, research and community service.
Michaliszyn’s career at YSU spans several leadership roles, including associate dean of BCHHS, chair of the Department of Health Professions and chair of the Department of Kinesiology and Sport Science. She has been a faculty member at YSU since 2013 and currently holds the rank of full professor. Her numerous awards include the 2022 BCHHS Dean’s Appreciation Award and the 2020 Excellence Award for Department Chairperson in Scholarship.
“I am deeply honored to be appointed as the dean of the Bitonte College of Health and Human Services,” Michaliszyn said. “My vision is to create an environment that fosters excellence in teaching, research and service while prioritizing student success and community engagement. I look forward to working with faculty, staff and students to build a legacy of innovation and community impact.”
Michaliszyn earned a doctorate and Master of Science degree in exercise physiology from the University of Pittsburgh and a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science from YSU. She also completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Arizona and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh at UPMC. She is a certified exercise physiologist through the American College of Sports Medicine.
