YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Millennial Theatre Company will bring back its adults-only holiday comedy, “Who’s Holiday,” with performances this weekend and next at Hopewell Theatre, 702 Mahoning Ave.
There will be a total of four shows, with performances at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5, 6, 12 and 13. Tickets start at $20. Go to MillennialTheatre.org.
“Who’s Holiday” tells the story of Cindy Lou Who, 30 years after the events with the Grinch. Cindy is now in exile from Whoville after a series of bad decisions led her to destitution on Mt. Crumpit, then prison and, finally, the trailer she resides in today.
“Who’s Holiday” is a wildly funny and heartfelt adults-only comedy, narrated entirely in rhyme by an adult Cindy, as she recalls that Christmas Eve she first met the Grinch and the twisted turn of events her life has now taken.
Brandy Johanntges stars as Cindy Lou Who.
The show was first presented last year to a sold-out run.
Director Joe Asente is glad to bring it back.
“We obviously knew this show was funny and that if audiences took a chance on something new, they would fall in love with this show,” he said.
“We always hope that people come out for these lesser-known titles, but I don’t think anyone on our team expected the response that we received last year for this show. Every performance was sold out, and the crowds went absolutely nuts for this show.”
The theater received many requests to bring the raunchy show back.
“If you are a fan of the Grinch, adult-oriented comedy, inappropriate jokes and laughing until you cry, this is truly the show for you,” Asante said. “We all love the classics during the holidays, but I think Youngstown audiences are also always looking to expand their entertainment intake this time of year. With this zany, adults-only take on a childhood classic, this production has just the right amount of nostalgia to that fuzzy, warm Christmas from your youth while still giving audiences a chance to laugh.”
