YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Millennial Theatre Company will present the area premiere of the hit parody “Stranger Sings” at the Youngstown Playhouse.

The show will run for three weekends, Nov. 7-9, 14-16 and 21-23.
“Stranger Sings” is a parody musical based on the story of the hit Netflix series “Stranger Things.”

Like the televised series, the musical takes audiences to Hawkins, Ind., in 1983 – a time when life was simpler – and children were getting snatched by interdimensional creatures.

The parody mainly focuses on season 1, following the disappearance of local youth Will Byers.

Director Joe Asente said the production truly has something for everyone – not just “Stranger Things” fans.

“While the show certainly has many in-jokes and Easter eggs for the superfans of the Netflix series, the stage show is written in such a way that you can enjoy it without having ever seen an episode of the series,” he said. “There are so many fun, nostalgic ’80s and musical theater references that make this an enjoyable evening for just about any audience member, regardless of their knowledge of the source material.”

The musical, written by Jonathan Hogue, recently enjoyed a successful Off-Broadway run, and Millennial is among the first in the nation to produce the show.

The cast includes Ben Doss, Natalina Kazimir, Caitlin Overton, Jackie Collins, Joshua Fleming, Edward Bazzell, Ryan Stewart, Gesse Matlock, Jaye Mills, Kali-Davies Anderson, Ty Hanes, Trudi Herrholtz, Michelle Jalbert and Xaine Stenberg. The musical director is Cari Auth, and the choreographer is Danielle Mentzer.
Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday performances are at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 and available at MillennialTheatre.org and YoungstownPlayhouse.org.
