COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Development announced that $45.6 million in grants is available through the Welcome Home Ohio program to help more Ohioans achieve homeownership.
“Welcome Home Ohio hasn’t just opened doors for more communities to capitalize on Ohio’s momentum, it has changed the lives of countless families who may have felt homeownership just wasn’t possible,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. “That’s the real mark of success, and that’s why we’re so proud to continue this program.”
The latest round of the program, passed by the 136th Ohio General Assembly in the state’s biennium budget bill and signed by Gov. Mike DeWine last year, will provide $22.8 million both for the purchase of qualifying residential properties at foreclosure sales and for the rehabilitation or construction of homes.
Additionally, $20 million in nonrefundable tax credits is available through the biennium for qualifying rehabs and new construction once a property is sold.
Since its inception, Welcome Home Ohio has awarded nearly $86 million to support the creation of 727 homes in 63 counties.
The application period for the grants is open through 5 p.m. Aug. 25. Tax credit applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until funds are expended.
