In September, a Target spokesperson confirmed that the company would move forward with a store in Hermitage, Pa., as part of the city’s Hickory Fields development.
The announcement of the new store – the retail chain’s third in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys – confirmed what was arguably the region’s worst-kept secret.
Plans and renderings presented to the Hermitage Planning Commission in January for the former Shenango Valley Mall property heavily suggested that Target was the tenant for a proposed $16 million building on the site, described as a “Minnesota-headquartered, publicly traded, national brand general merchandise retailer with nearly 2,000 locations” and nearly 400,000 employees.
