YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – After releasing its first new song in 16 years – and with a long-rumored new album on the way – Mudvayne is back in action.
The new music comes just days before the metal band launches a 31-city co-headlining tour with Static-X that will hit Covelli Centre on Sept. 17. Tickets range from $79.50 to $39.50 and are available at ticketmaster.com and the Covelli Centre box office.
The opening act is Vended.
Mudvayne’s new song, “Hurt People Hurt People,” was released last week. It is a shattering slice of nu-metal that starts with a roar by singer Chad Gray and never lets up, pounding home its message with a mega-speed drum beat.
“’Hurt People Hurt People’ has probably been around since the beginning of man,” said Gray in a press release. “Certainly longer than the phrase ever existed. The endless cycle of projecting our pain onto others. I think I wrote this song as a reminder to myself to break the cycle. We create our own suffering, our own hurt. It’s time for us to create self-love and let go of the pain. It was never ours to begin with.”

The song is the first new material from the band since 2009, when it released a self-titled album. In addition to Gray, the band consists of guitarist Greg Tribbett, bassist Ryan Martinie, and drummer Matthew McDonough.
Mudvayne signed with Alchemy Recordings in the spring. It’s not certain whether the new song will appear on the band’s upcoming album. No release date has been announced yet for the album.
The upcoming tour with Static-X will celebrate landmark albums by both bands that were released 25 years ago: Mudvayne’s “L.D. 50” and Static-X’s “Wisconsin Death Trip.”
Static-X was formed in 2004 by Wayne Static, who died in 2014. The act was reformed in 2018 by original members Tony Campos, Koichi Fukuda and Ken Jay. It released the album “Project Regeneration” in 2020, and “Project Regenration Vol. 2” in 2024.
