New Calcutta Sheetz Opens to Appreciative Customers
CALCUTTA, Ohio — After six months of construction, the newly rebuilt Sheetz opened its doors at 10 a.m. Tuesday, and by 10:15 a.m., nearly all parking spaces were filled and gas pumps were in use.
While the price of $2.89 for regular gas attracted drivers looking for a deal, many customers came to enjoy the store’s Made-To-Order (MTO) food and check out the new interior design.
The original Sheetz was demolished in April, and the purchase of a business on adjacent property allowed for the expanded facility, which now includes indoor seating and outdoor tables.
A drive-through window with a separate entrance and exit on St. Clair Avenue was also added, along with the main access at the intersection of St. Clair and state Route 170.
A fueling station, with the capacity to fuel 10 vehicles at a time, is located in front of the store. Although some locals had expressed concerns about the reduced number of gas pumps, the first two customers, Amy White and Breanna Faulk, said it wouldn’t be a problem.
“The pumps were never full before. I don’t think fewer gas pumps will be a big deal,” Faulk said, as she and White helped themselves to one of the food stations in the store.
Both women described the new facility as “very nice and pretty,” with White adding, “It will be way more convenient now that they have seating.”
“This is great,” another customer exclaimed while pouring himself some hot coffee.
As the doors opened, one customer arrived with his grandson, who insisted on trying the popular MTO foods, available via self-serve kiosks.
Sheetz is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
Employees said they did not lose work during construction but were reassigned to other Sheetz locations in the area.
No formal ribbon-cutting is planned, but in a statement, public relations manager Nick Ruffner said, “We are excited to welcome back our customers to this location.”
