CANFIELD, Ohio – Gateways to Better Living celebrated the launch of a special ice cream Friday at Cockeye Creamery, 18 N. Broad St.
As part of the Cockeye Cares program, Gateways to Better Living was selected as the featured nonprofit for the quarter. A special ice cream flavor – Banana Cream Pie – was created in honor of the organization.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to be a partner of Cockeye Creamery,” said Kristie Murphy, community engagement director at Gateways to Better Living. “The Banana Cream Pie flavor is absolutely awesome. We could not be happier.”
The flavor will be available through the end of June, while supplies last, with proceeds from each pint-size purchase benefiting Gateways to Better Living. The organization serves more than 200 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities across the Mahoning Valley. Funds raised through the partnership will support programming for individuals served by the organization, including helping fund its annual Christmas celebration later this year.
“Working with organizations like Gateways to Better Living is one of the reasons I wake up for work each morning,” said Max Hoover, owner of Cockeye Creamery. “Send me applications, because we’re always looking for them. I have the next couple planned, but I’m going to do this for the next 20 years. I’m not stopping now.”
