HERMITAGE, Pa. – Mercer County Food Bank is opening a new community food pantry at the Community Counseling Center, 2201 E. State St.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to expand our partnership with Community Counseling Center to reach more neighbors in need in the Hermitage area,” said Rebecca Page, executive director of Mercer County Food Bank. “After completing a service area assessment last year, this area of the county was identified as high need for food assistance but with neighbors having low access to food. This partnership will truly help us bridge the gap and ensure neighbors have the food they need to thrive.”
The food pantry, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, will operate using a choice model, allowing people to select the food items that best meet their needs rather than receiving prepackaged boxes. The pantry will also offer personal hygiene products.
“Community Counseling Center is proud to partner with Mercer County Food Bank to address food insecurity in our community,” said Sonna Adkins of the Community Counseling Center. “This pantry will allow us to better support the individuals and families we serve by meeting a critical basic need with dignity and choice.”
Mercer County Food Bank and Community Counseling Center will celebrate the opening of the pantry with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Friday.
