CANFIELD, Ohio – The Canfield Fair embraced new leadership last year when Skye Tancer was named fair manager. She succeeded Bev Fisher, who retired after 33 years.
Several major capital improvements were made in 2024 on the 350-acre fairgrounds, which has 70 buildings. Key projects included replacing the racetrack and installing new doors on the rabbit and poultry buildings.
In collaboration with the Cardinal Joint Fire District, the pumpkin barn was removed in a controlled burn training exercise for firefighters. The beloved pumpkin display and commemorative photo sign were temporarily relocated to the grange building, 50 feet from the original location.
Additionally, the coliseum was painted and pressure washed.
“Keeping the fairgrounds updated and welcoming is paramount for the Canfield Fair board and a continual conversation that we have throughout the year,” says Dave Mannion, president. “We want to put our best foot forward every day but having a deadline at the end of August each year really keeps us on task.”
The Mahoning County Agricultural Hall of Fame’s third annual induction ceremony took place at the 2024 fair. The year’s honorees were Harvey Firestone, Roger Greenawalt, Francis and Jane Less, and Paul E. Myers.
The 2025 fair will take place Aug. 27-Sept. 1. Seven-time Grammy winners Lady A will be the Sunday night headliner on the grandstand stage. The remainder of the schedule will be announced in late spring.
