YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A pilot program will debut in June that will help fill the need for maintenance technicians at manufacturing companies.
The Mahoning Valley Manufacturers Coalition developed the Technician Fast Track program with the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association.
The program gives manufacturers a way to train workers for the much-needed maintenance technician positions specific to their organizations.
The program involves 340 hours of classroom instruction and 1,500 hours of on-the-job training over the course of a year, and TechCred and a federal apprenticeship incentive fund may help offset employer costs.
For more information about the program, email Alex Hertzer, executive director of MVMC, at Alex@mahoningvalleymfg.com.
MVMC Meeting
MVMC held its quarterly meeting last month, drawing 58 members and partners to the Columbiana County Career & Technical Center.
CCCTC High School and Adult Education leaders updated attendees on a three-phase construction project that aims to meet growing demand for programs, including welding, machining and auto technology, plus a new customized machining training program.
Mark Lamoncha, president and CEO of Humtown, was introduced as MVMC’s president.
And the organization’s WordAdvance program is evolving, based on feedback from employers. The May cohort will include blueprint reading, dimensional measurement, blueprinting and GD&T and 48 hours of hands-on instruction geared toward entry-level quality and safety roles.
