YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A couple bridges in the Mahoning Valley will receive maintenance work as part of a $2.1 million project proposed by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
The project includes maintenance on a bridge along U.S. Route 422 in the city of Youngstown and two bridges along Interstate 76 in Palmyra Township in Portage County. The project also includes maintenance on a pedestrian bridge spanning Interstate 80 in the city of Girard.
The project is currently in the preliminary engineering phase. Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall.
During construction, a minimum of one 10-foot lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction on I-76 and I-80. At the Route 422 bridge site, one westbound lane of traffic will need to be closed during construction to install a vandal protection fence.
The pedestrian bridge spanning I-80 will be closed for at least seven days to replace a vandal protection fence. The detour route for the closure will use Maple Avenue, Route 422 and Morris Avenue.
Construction, lane restriction/reduction and pedestrian detour information will be posted within the project construction limits and on ODOT’s website before the start of construction.
As part of the environmental process for the project, ODOT is seeking comments from the public. Project-related issues include, but are not limited to, the effect of the project on residents, businesses, the local economy and historic or cultural resources. Contact Sean Carpenter, environmental specialist for ODOT, District 4, at 330 786 2274 or Sean.carpenter@dot.ohio.gov. Comments received by March 7 will be considered during project development, but all comments received will receive a reply.
