YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology will bring more than 35 STEAM education exhibitors to Wean Park for its annual Silly Science Sunday on Sept. 13.
The free festival will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Huntington Alley Way and feature hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics activities.
Activities will include walking across 400 pounds of oobleck, cooking with a solar oven, catching balls tossed by robots and riding in a robotic recliner. Attendees also will have opportunities to meet scientists and interact with area robotics teams.
“This year’s event features some first-time exhibitors and many festival favorites,” said Colleen Ruby, OH WOW!’s director of operations. “There is something for every interest, and we know festival goers will leave excited to learn more about our partners and various STEAM subjects.”
Participating organizations will include Youngstown State University’s College of STEM, SMARTS, Mahoning County Career and Technical Center, Trumbull Career and Technical Center, PBS Western Reserve, Youngstown Model Railroad Association, the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County, Home Depot, Akron Children’s Hospital and City Machine Technologies.
Raptor Hallow Sanctuary, United Protective Technologies and ProQuality Demo will participate for the first time this year.
“Of course, OH WOW! is mixing hundreds of pounds of oobleck and has a few other new activities and demonstrations in store,” Ruby said.
No registration is required. Free parking will be available at the Covelli Centre, and food trucks will be on site during the event.
