COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Controlling Board this week approved two items under the Department of Development’s Ohio Housing Trust Fund for a combined $22 million to combat homelessness in the state.
The board awarded $8 million to the Supportive Housing Program, which provides an opportunity for stable, long-term housing for people who are homeless through supportive housing operations. It also awarded $14 million to the Homeless Crisis Response Program, which was established to better meet the needs of homeless people in the state.
“Unfortunately, there has been an increase in homelessness in the Mahoning Valley,” state Rep. Lauren McNally, D-58th, said in announcing the funding. “This state intervention is coming at an important time, and I hope we can use these resources to help create sustainable housing support.”
