COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohioans filed 3,859 initial traditional unemployment claims last week, which was 544 fewer than the previous week, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday.
State residents also filed 36,938 continued traditional unemployment claims the week of Aug. 23-29, which was 1,166 fewer than the previous week.
Combined, Ohioans filed 40,797 initial and continued unemployment claims during the week.
Of the initial unemployment claims filed, 829 have been flagged for more stringent identity verification to ensure they are not fraudulent.
In July, Ohio’s unemployment rate was 3.4%. The national unemployment rate was 4.1%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in July was 61.4%, the same as the national rate.
