Ohio OKs Tax Credit Assistance for New Viega Project
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Viega LLC will get some tax credit assistance as it plans to build a new facility in Ohio.
The Ohio Department of Development approved the project for tax credit assistance during its Ohio Tax Credit Authority meeting Monday.
Viega plans to build a new campus-like facility focused on metal production to accommodate forecasted growth in its U.S. operations. The company is the first announced tenant at the Turnpike Commerce Center business park, located between Shalersville Township and Streetsboro.
The project is contingent on local approvals.
“We are excited about the expansion of our production to the Shalersville community in Ohio,” said Marki Huston, head of manufacturing for Viega. “We remain committed to the development of tomorrow’s workforce and continuing to create more highly skilled job opportunities in the U.S. With production expected to begin in 2025, we look forward to hiring for positions as early as January 2024.”
The company, which plans to initially add 68 positions at its new location, manufactures and distributes plumbing, heating and pipe-joining fittings and systems for customers in residential, commercial, industrial and marine markets, according to its website.
Local, regional and state economic development partners – including the Portage Development Board, the Shalersville Joint Economic Development District, ODOD, JobsOhio and Team NEO – worked collaboratively with Viega to secure the project.
“We have a great manufacturing legacy, dedicated talent pool and future-oriented industry resources to support Viega’s new operations,” said Bill Koehler, chief executive officer of Team NEO. “Along with JobsOhio and our local partners, we welcome Viega to the northeast Ohio region. We are confident they will thrive here.”
