Ohio Weekly Unemployment Claims Drop for 5th Straight Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The drop in unemployment claims in Ohio continued last week.

Ohioans filed 7,159 initial traditional unemployment claims last week, which was 3,376 fewer than the previous week and down 16,735 from the eight-week high of 23,894, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Thursday.

It was the fifth straight week that initial traditional unemployment claims have decreased.

State residents also filed 35,144 continued traditional unemployment claims the week of Sept. 3-9, which was 1,257 fewer than the previous week.

Of the initial unemployment claims filed, 2,572 have been flagged for more stringent identity verification to ensure they are not fraudulent.

In July, Ohio’s unemployment rate was 3.3%. The national unemployment rate was 3.5%. Ohio’s labor force participation rate in July was 62.1%. The national labor force participation rate was 62.6%.
