COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohioans filed 10,463 initial traditional unemployment claims last week, which was 2,212 more than the previous week, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported Friday.

State residents also filed 55,173 continued traditional unemployment claims the week of Dec. 21-27, which was 1,851 more than the previous week.

Of the initial unemployment claims filed, 1,292 have been flagged for more stringent identity verification to ensure they are not fraudulent.

In September, Ohio’s unemployment rate was 4.8%. The national unemployment rate was 4.4%. Both the state and national labor force participation rates in September were 62.4%.
