COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohioans filed 4,855 initial unemployment claims last week, 226 fewer than the previous week, the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services reported.

Approximately 667 of those have been flagged for more stringent identity verification, to ensure they are not fraudulent.

Ohioans filed 49,173 continued unemployment claims last week, 77 more than the previous week.

The total number of claims filed from July 27–Aug. 2, was 54,028.

Ohio’s unemployment rate in June was 4.9%, slightly higher than the 4.1% national unemployment rate. 

Ohio’s labor force participation rate in June was 62.7%. The national labor force participation rate in June was 62.3%.
