COLUMBUS, Ohio – Gov. Mike DeWine announced Wednesday that 492 employers were approved for funding through Ohio’s TechCred program in November.

The funding will provide the opportunity for Ohioans to earn 6,766 tech-focused credentials, according to a news release.

“TechCred gives Ohio employers the opportunity to choose the tech training their employees need – most times at no cost to them,” DeWine said. “Participating in TechCred is a great way for employers to ensure their employees continue learning new skills.”

TechCred helps businesses address their workforce needs by upskilling current and prospective employees with the credentials needed for a tech-infused economy. Of the total credentials awarded in the latest round, nearly 3,000 were manufacturing-related credentials awarded to almost 200 Ohio manufacturers. Since 2019, nearly 1,400 Ohio manufacturers have been awarded over 53,600 credentials through the program.

Businesses of all sizes and from any industry are eligible for up to $30,000 per round and up to $180,000 per year. TechCred has awarded more than 120,000 tech-focused credentials to nearly 3,500 Ohio employers since 2019.

“As Ohio continues to grow, equipping people with the skills to succeed in today’s workforce is more important than ever,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Ohio Department of Development. “Today’s results highlight the importance of investing in Ohioans as they develop in-demand skills, advance their careers and strengthen our economy – all while ensuring businesses have access to exceptional talent.”

The current application period for Ohio employers opened Jan. 2 and will close at 3 p.m. Jan. 31. Employers can apply HERE.
