YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Members of the Healthy Community Partnership’s active transportation team invite the community to join them May 18 for their next Safer Streets Series demonstration. The demonstration project will be active during the third Annual Bike Belmont ride.

The Belmont Safer Street demonstration will be in place from May 16 to May 18. Community members are invited to help paint the temporary bike lane design May 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Belmont Avenue from Tod Lane to Gypsy Lane. All supplies will be provided. The meeting location will be shared to volunteers after registering. Email Dalton Campana at dacampana@ysu.edu for more information or to sign up to volunteer.

The temporary demonstration area will include a section on Belmont Avenue from Tod Lane to Gypsy Lane. Visitors will be able to learn more about the benefits of the temporary bike lane through its design, which will include temporary painted bike lanes, protected cone buffer and directional arrows. The temporary bike lane for the upcoming demonstration was designed by Tricia D’Avignon, regional planner at Eastgate Regional Council of Governments.

Visitors will be able to provide feedback through a survey distributed at the conclusion of Bike Belmont, which will be located at the B & O Station, 530 Mahoning Ave. Visitors are encouraged to travel to the Safe Street demonstration on Belmont by bike, by bus or on foot.

Visitors can also enjoy the 3rd Annual Bike Belmont event and register to ride in either the Airport Ride, a 28-mile loop that departs at noon, or the Community Ride, a 12-mile loop that departs at 2 p.m.

The purpose of Bike Belmont is to explore the many diverse businesses along the Belmont Avenue corridor and to promote Belmont as a vital connector to employers and essential services in addition to connect with each other, to interact with the stakeholders along the corridor and to learn more about community needs. Registered riders will be provided with free lunch at the B & O Station at the end of their rides.

The events are being presented by Healthy Community Partnership, Youngstown State University, GuinFit, Eastgate, Youngstown CityScape and Building a Better Belmont Coalition.
