Pat Catan’s Craft Stores to Close

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Michaels Companies will close all 36 of its Pat Catan’s art supply stores in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2018, the company said in its quarterly guidance report.

There are Pat Catan’s stores in Austintown, Boardman and Niles, as well as in Hermitage, Pa.

Michaels Companies, which also operates Michaels craft stores, purchased Pat Catan’s in 2016.

“Over the last three years, we have delivered value through the significant expansion of our China-based sourcing team and the growth of our wholesale business,” the company said in its report. “However, the Pat Catan’s retail business has struggled in the face of industry headwinds.”

A dozen stores will be rebranded as Michaels in fiscal 2019, though the company did not specify which locations will be updated. There are Michaels stores in Niles and Boardman.

Michaels’ distribution center in Strongsville will remain open. Nationally, Michaels has more than 1,100 stores in 49 states and Canada. Pat Catan’s operates in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and West Virginia.

“We are committed to providing opportunities for all impacted team members and are working closely with our staff and the local communities to help manage through this transition,” Michaels Companies said in its statement.
