EAST PALESTINE, Ohio – Phase 2 of the $25 million renovation of East Palestine Park will begin Monday.
The second phase will focus on early site work for the planned aquatic center and will include installing safety fencing and demolition of the existing sports courts. It is expected to conclude by summer 2026.
The village announced Thursday that permits have been acquired from the Ohio Department of Health for the next phase.
“We’re excited to see this progress firsthand and continue moving toward a park that reflects the spirit and resilience of our community,” said Antonio Diaz-Guy, village manager. “We know how much these spaces mean to residents, and we’re committed to preserving these memories while we update our facilities and build toward our future.”
Much of phase 1 is nearly complete, including the sand volleyball court, new patio furniture, light poles, fencing for new courts, sidewalks and paving of the dog park. The amphitheater’s timeline has been delayed by materials.
The Rainbow Dreamland will close Sunday for the duration of phase 2. The wooden memorial planks from the Dreamland will be preserved and located throughout the park once construction is completed, along with other memorial plaques and rocks that will need to be moved.
The Community Center and other amenities will be closed, along with the parking lot between the current tennis courts and existing pool building. The Community Center will reopen when demolition concludes, and there will be weekly updates posted on the village Facebook page and other platforms.
Work schedules are from about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
