COLUMBUS, Ohio – The state’s Board of Building Standards is launching a platform to make it faster and easier for building officials, plan examiners and inspectors at local building departments to complete their state certification process.
The BBS, which is within the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Industrial Compliance, is launching a new eLicense Ohio Licensing, Permitting & Inspections portal. It streamlines the certification process for those who assist Ohio residential and commercial building owners in verifying their projects comply with building codes.
BBS certifies about 800 building departments that employ more than 2,000 individuals. The new portal replaces paper-based, manual certification processes with an automated digital system that simplifies licensing, permitting and inspection workflows.
It provides certification holders with a user-friendly platform for managing their accounts and accessing information.
“By transitioning to a fully digital system, we’re improving accuracy, efficiency and accessibility for all certification holders,” Regina Hanshaw, executive secretary for the BBS, said in a news release. “This change reflects our commitment to delivering a seamless experience for both applicants and our staff.”
Changes through the eLicense LPI Portal include:
- Online access: Certification holders will be able to apply for, renew and manage their certifications, make payments and download licensure proof instantly via the portal from anywhere at any time.
- Streamlined application process: With guided checklists and automated approvals, applications and renewals will move faster, reducing delays and paperwork.
- Enhanced payment processing: The portal supports online payments with advanced tracking and reporting capabilities. While paper checks will still be accepted, this provides users with an alternative.
- Tailored dashboards: Users can track training hours, renewal deadlines and application statuses through personalized dashboards, helping to ensure they stay on track with their certification requirements.
- Improved communication: The portal provides real-time notifications and detailed email updates to ensure users stay informed about their application or certification statuses.
