BOARDMAN, Ohio – Project Mayhem, the rock orchestra program at Boardman High School, will present its annual concert at 7 p.m. Friday, March 27, at the Boardman Performing Arts Center, 7777 Glenwood Ave.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased in advance at Door 1 of Boardman High School between 7 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on weekdays. Because the event usually sells out, it is recommended to buy tickets in advance.
The annual concert puts the students’ talents as musicians and singers on display in an energetic show that is complete with special effects.
A Project Mayhem performance is similar to that of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. It’s an arena rock-meets-classical music show with several singers and a host of special effects.
Boardman High founded Project Mayhem in 2006 as a creative way to bridge classical training with modern rock. The ensemble held its inaugural performance in March 2007 and has since evolved into a full-scale professional production featuring a laser light show and even smoke cannons.
“It’s a labor of love that allows them to be ‘rock stars’ on our BPAC stage,” said Bill Amendol, director.
The group consists of approximately 45 auditioned student musicians who practice year-round to deliver a professional-grade show.
This year’s setlist features hits spanning decades, including rock anthems “Jukebox Hero” (Foreigner), “Crazy Train” (Ozzy Osbourne) and “One” (Metallica); modern favorites “Stargazing” (Myles Smith) and “You Belong With Me” (Taylor Swift); and classics like “Bobby McGee” (Janis Joplin), “Dancing Queen” (ABBA) and “I Will Survive” (Gloria Gaynor).
