SALEM, Ohio – Family medicine physician Dr. Marcela Purtell resumed seeing patients at Salem Regional Medical Center Primary Care-Calcutta, 48462 Bell School Road, on May 20.

Purtell previously served the Calcutta community at the same location before Heritage Valley Health System closed its facilities in March. The practice has since transitioned to a service of Salem Regional Medical Center.

SRMC Primary Care-Calcutta reopened in April at the Calcutta Medical Arts Center.

Purtell has joined family medicine physician Dr. Katarina Barlow and nurse practitioner Kelly Fischer in offering comprehensive primary care and walk-in urgent care for patients of all ages.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Purtell back to the Calcutta practice,” said Dr. Anita Hackstedde, SRMC president and CEO. “Her expertise and long-standing community ties strengthen our commitment to providing patients with the high-quality care they have come to expect, close to home.”

In addition to primary and walk-in care, the Calcutta Medical Arts Center offers on-site laboratory services. Medical imaging services, including X-rays, DEXA scans and mobile mammograms are tentatively planned to be added in June. Expanded urgent care, including evening and weekend hours, is planned for August.

“We recognize that patients in the greater Calcutta area depend on this office for both routine care and diagnostic services and are dedicated to keeping these essential services easily accessible,” Hackstedde said.
