YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – As part of the nationwide celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley is inviting community members to help preserve the voices, memories and hopes of today for future generations through its America 250 Time Capsule project.
The time capsule will be sealed in July and reopened in July 2051, offering a glimpse into life, faith and community in the Mahoning Valley during this historic year.
The rescue mission is encouraging donors, volunteers, clients, staff, board members and friends of the organization to participate by writing a brief note to be included in the time capsule.
Participants are invited to share memories, reflections, words of encouragement, prayers, hopes for the future or thoughts about what life is like in 2026.
“This time capsule will be more than a collection of letters,” said Lynn Wyant, CFRE, chief development officer at the rescue mission. “It is an opportunity to capture the stories, values and experiences that define our rescue mission today so that future generations can better understand who we were and what mattered to us.”
A short handwritten or typed note can be dropped off at the rescue mission reception office; mailed to Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, P.O. Box 298, Youngstown, OH 44501; or emailed to LWyant@RescueMissionMV.org. Letters must be submitted by July 22.
“This is an opportunity to send a message across time and become part of a project that will connect today’s Mahoning Valley with the community of 2051,” Wyant said.
