YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley will recognize its Servant’s Heart Award recipients at the 2025 Volunteer Appreciation Brunch on April 26.

The award recognizes outstanding volunteers for their dedication and selfless service.

Initially awarded in 2006 to recognize volunteer Barbara Clark, who volunteered at the rescue mission while terminally ill, the Servant’s Heart Award will be presented to six honorees: Annabelle Himes, Chantal Jones, Colleen Muckridge, Ron Cohen, Ron Sackett and Shirley Doughty, each of whom has made a significant impact through their support and compassionate efforts.

They will receive a personal letter and certificate acknowledging their dedication.

“Our volunteers are truly special,” said Greta Magazzine, volunteer coordinator. “Their consistent support and willingness to help make a real difference. We’re excited to recognize their efforts at the Volunteer Appreciation Brunch.”

Lynn Wyant, chief development officer at the rescue mission, said she sees volunteers throughout the mission.

“It is such a picture of the body of Christ at work,” she said. “We can bless our clients with so much because of the goodness of the Valley, their contributions and the care they pour out in the ministry. It truly is wonderful to see people growing out of homelessness and our community right there cheering them along and offering practical help in so many areas, from the kitchen to the learning center and everywhere in between.”

The Volunteer Appreciation Brunch will begin at 10 a.m. in the rescue mission’s Chapel & Dining Hall. The event is open to all current and potential volunteers and their guests. Volunteers can register HERE.

Individuals interested in learning about volunteer opportunities and meeting current volunteers are also welcome to attend. Information about the rescue mission and volunteer opportunities is available HERE.
