YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Rust Belt Theater Company will bring back its popular original musical “How the Drag Queen Stole Christmas” for six performances.

Now in its 19th year, the show will be presented at 8 p.m. Dec. 5-6 and 12-13 and 2 p.m. Dec. 7 and 14 in the Moyer Room at the Youngstown Playhouse.

The Youngstown Playhouse is at 600 Playhouse Lane, off Glenwood Avenue.  

“Drag Queen,” written and composed by Robert Dennic Joki and Josh Taylor, is an off-the-wall retelling of Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.”

It tells the story of Starrlet O’Hara, a tyrant drag queen who is visited by three ghostly divas on Christmas Eve. 

The show is updated each year to lampoon politics, current events and pop culture, said Joki, who is also the director.

The cast includes  Nicole Zayas, Caitlyn Murphy, Vicci Sfikas, Diane Marie, Haley Kerr, Rachael Kerr, Lisa Torrence, Caitlyn Santiago, Joey Shilot, Charity Bauer, Carlos Rivera, Keith Stepanic, Eric McCrea, Caitlin Cole, Rachel Myers and Joki.

This year’s production will also showcase a local LGBTQ+ organization at each performance, highlighting the resources they provide for the community. Here is the schedule:

  • Dec. 7: Columbiana County Pride.
  • Dec. 12: Rae’s Safe Haven.
  • Dec. 13: Full Spectrum Community Outreach.
  • Dec. 14: Pride Youngstown.
