STRUTHERS, Ohio – A funeral parlor will be the setting for Selah Dessert Theater’s season opener, “Three Viewings.”

The play, written by Jeffrey Hatcher, features three separate monologs told at a funeral home. Each story puts the spotlight on a character’s life and relationships.

Despite the setting, the stories are not sad or dreary, said Mary Ruth Lynn, director. Instead, they are filled with humor, with unique characters sharing stories that fit in with Halloween. The tales will share just the right touch of madness and the world beyond, Lynn said.

The show will open Thursday, Oct. 23. Other performances will be Oct. 24-25, Oct. 31-Nov. 1 and Nov. 7-8.

The curtain time for all performances is 8 p.m.

The first story, “Tell Tale,” features Pete Sherman playing a prim and proper funeral director whose infatuation with a real estate agent with a heart condition moves from innocent school boy crush to questionable actions to obsession and, finally, to a world beyond reality.

Jeanine Rees, assistant director, brings the role of Mac to life in “Thief of Tears.” The black sheep of the family, Mac makes her living stealing jewelry off corpses. When her grandmother dies, Mac is determined to acquire a ring she believes is hers.

In “Thirteen Things About Ed Carpolotti,” a character played by Denise Sculli discovers her wheeling and dealing husband has left her penniless and in debt to some unsavory characters. Could a mysterious letter be the answer to her problems?
