HARRISBURG, Pa. – The city of Sharon has been awarded a Green Light-Go Program grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to improve traffic safety and mobility.
The city will receive $762,534 to modernize multiple intersections.
“This is excellent news for the citizens of Sharon. This grant will help fund necessary improvements to intersections in the city, making our roads safer for drivers across Mercer County,” state Rep. Parke Wentling, R-7th, said in announcing the grant.
Green Light-Go grants are provided as reimbursements to municipalities for projects that improve the efficiency and operation of existing traffic signals. These projects are funded through the 2025-26 budget. Eligible improvements include, but are not limited to, installation of light-emitting diode technology, traffic signal retiming, special-event traffic planning, traffic signal monitoring and upgrades to modern signal technologies.
Sharon was one of 57 municipalities across the commonwealth to share nearly $30 million in the latest round of Green Light-Go funding.
“The safety improvements supported by the Green Light-Go Program will help municipalities reduce congestion, improve traffic flow, and keep Pennsylvanians moving safely and efficiently,” Mike Carroll, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation secretary, said in a news release.
