SHARON, Pa. – The recently reopened Sharon Regional Medical Center is resuming services.

According to Radha Savitala, founder of Tenor Health Foundation, which owns and operates Sharon Regional, the hospital has now reopened the catheterization and vascular labs, which allows it to offer advanced diagnostics and treatments for heart and circulatory conditions.

Surgical services also have resumed for both inpatient and outpatient procedures. Inpatient care has been restored through a 12-bed medical-surgical unit on the sixth floor.

Additionally, the Sharon hospital is again offering interventional radiology services – minimally invasive, image-guided treatments with reduced recovery times.

The Wound Care Center has reopened, providing specialized care for chronic and nonhealing wounds.

Cardiac rehabilitation is available again to provide patients with supervised exercise and education to support them after a cardiac event.

“The reopening of these key departments marks another major step forward in restoring the full continuum of care at Sharon Regional,” Butch Eavenson, interim CEO of Sharon Regional Medical Center, said in the announcement of the reopenings. “From life-saving cardiac and vascular services to advanced surgical care and wound healing, we’re ensuring our community has access to high-quality treatment without leaving Mercer County.”

Savitala said the resuming of the services came through careful planning, rigorous quality assurance and collaboration with local and state partners.

“This milestone reflects the power of partnership and shared purpose,” Savitala said. “Through close coordination with the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the dedication of our clinical and operational teams, we’ve safely restored critical services. Together, we are reaffirming our commitment to the people of Mercer County and ensuring they have access to the care they need, right here at home.”

Tenor Health acquired the Sharon hospital from bankrupt Steward Health Care System in January and reopened it with limited services March 18.

Tenor first reopened the hospital’s emergency room, 12 other medical surgical beds on the fourth floor, ICU beds and rehab, lab, pharmacy and imaging departments.

The hospital is also working to restore key resources to the community, such as the Hermitage Diagnostic Center, behavioral health programs, sleep centers and the pain clinic.

Steward, which operated 31 hospitals in nine states, filed for bankruptcy May 6, 2024. Sharon Regional was the only Steward-owned hospital in Pennsylvania. Steward’s two hospitals in Ohio – Trumbull Regional Medical Center in Warren and Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital in Howland – were acquired by Insight Foundation and are both currently closed.
