Contest Seeks Photos for Display at Juvenile Justice Center

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Mahoning County Juvenile Court Advisory Board, in conjunction with the Soap Gallery, is inviting area photo enthusiasts to take part in the Capture the Spirit of the Valley Photo contest.

The contest is open to all Mahoning County residents and to professional and amateur photographers of any age. The photographs selected will become part of the court’s permanent collection and displayed throughout the juvenile courthouse.

“We recently finished a much-needed renovation project at this important facility,” said Mahoning County Juvenile Court Judge Theresa Dellick. “The photographs will provide inspiration for all who visit and work here and will serve as a reminder of the richness and beauty of our Valley.”

“The Soap Gallery is excited to connect the community to the court and the community using the conduit of art. There is a lot of talent in this community, and it is great for the court to recognize and award it,” Stephen Poullas, owner, said.

Contestants should submit their black and white photos in a digital format here. A panel of photographers and community members will review the submissions.

Cash prizes of $100, $50, $25 and $25 will be awarded to first, second and third place in each of three categories: professional, amateur, under 18, “People’s Choice” and six honorable mention awards chosen from all entrants. The permanent collection will be unveiled at 6 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Soap Gallery.
