YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown CityScape will host its 2018 Streetscape kickoff breakfast March 22 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
This year’s theme is Streetscape Superheroes, honoring those who have supported the program through either financial contributions or volunteer work since it was launched 21 years ago.
The breakfast, which starts at 8 a.m., is free but tickets are required. Reservations can be made here.
Streetscape organizes a planting day each spring and asks volunteers from the community to help plant flowers, plants and shrubs in downtown Youngstown and its gateway neighborhoods.
This year’s Streetscape planting day is Saturday, June 2.
CityScape’s Streetscape Day attracts more than 850 volunteers who are responsible for cleaning and planting beds, bunkers, and nearly 160 free-standing planters in more than a dozen sites across the city.
The organization’s work has inspired other neighborhoods across the city to launch volunteer groups that have contributed to revitalizing Andrews Avenue, the Youngstown Playhouse, the Mahoning Commons and North Side neighborhoods.
Throughout the spring and summer, CityScape’s staff landscape, water, weed, and maintain the plants and replant as the seasons change.
Last year, CityScape helped with major initiatives such as the Wick Park improvement project, the 2017 Sparkle Youngstown campaign, downtown volunteer workdays and the Wick Avenue Improvement project.
