STRUTHERS, Ohio – The city received recognition from America in Bloom during the organization’s annual symposium and awards celebration Sept. 24-26 in the Washington, D.C., area.
America in Bloom advisers Alex Pearl and Debbie Hamrick visited the city for two days during the summer, touring the community and meeting with officials, residents and volunteers.
America in Bloom participants are evaluated in seven areas: community vitality, overall impression, environmental initiatives, heritage celebration, urban forestry, landscaped areas, floral impact and community involvement. The program is the only national awards program that sends specially trained advisers to visit participating communities in person, a news release states.
Each participant also receives a written evaluation that can be used to identify areas for future improvements.
“America in Bloom is helping communities of all sizes achieve their potential,” said Laura Kunkle, executive director of America in Bloom. “Every year our participants raise the bar, and the accomplishments and progress shown by this year’s group is remarkable. These are, without a doubt, some of the best places to live, work and visit. Congratulations to Struthers for the excellent work making your community more beautiful and vibrant.”
More than 440 communities from 44 states have participated in America in Bloom, reaching more than 24 million people, according to the organization.
Registration for next year’s national America in Bloom program is open through Feb. 28, 2027. Eligible participants include towns, cities, college and university campuses, business districts, military installations and recognized neighborhoods of large cities.
