PASADENA, Calif. – Tenor Health Foundation, which owns Sharon Regional Health System in Sharon, Pa., has been approved to acquire three more hospitals in Pennsylvania.
Community Health Systems Inc. announced in October it plans to sell three northeastern Pennsylvania hospitals to Tenor Health: Regional Hospital in Scranton, Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
According to Becker’s Hospital Review, the sale was approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health on Wednesday.
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital is by far the largest with 369 beds, while the two Scranton hospitals are much smaller. Regional Hospital has 186 beds, and Moses Taylor Hospital has 122 beds.
CHS, a for-profit hospital system, is in the process of divesting its interests in the Pennsylvania market and several others. In January, CHS announced an agreement to sell Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, Ala., along with other associated practices and outpatient health centers. In 2025, CHS announced agreements to sell ownership interests in hospitals in Clarksville, Tenn.; Cedar Park, Texas; Mooresville, N.C.; Port Charlotte, Fla. It also sold outreach laboratory services in 13 states to Labcorp.
On July 30, 2024, CHS announced an agreement to sell the three Pennsylvania hospitals to affiliates of WoodBridge Healthcare Inc., but that plan was terminated in November 2024.
Tenor Health acquired Sharon Regional Medical Center through Steward Health Care System’s bankruptcy last year. Tenor Health renamed the hospital Sharon Regional Health System in May after reopening it in March.
