SALEM, Ohio — The Rumpled Queen, a downtown gastropub opened by chef-owner Annie Gano, has quickly established itself as one of the area’s top dining destinations in its first year. The restaurant offers chef-driven, upscale interpretations of classic dishes in a deliberately eclectic setting inside a former longtime Italian restaurant space.

Gano, who returned to her hometown after a career in major-city restaurant groups, said she was initially unsure how the concept would be received in a market used to more casual fare. The restaurant has since drawn diners from across the region and helped contribute to renewed activity in downtown Salem.
