YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – “The Shark Is Broken,” a backstage comedy about the troubled filming of “Jaws,” opens its regional premiere Friday at Playhouse Downtown.
The play follows three actors portraying Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss and Roy Scheider as they navigate delays and rising tensions during the troubled filming of the 1975 film at sea. With a broken mechanical shark and long stretches of downtime, the production becomes a backdrop for conflict, humor and reflection among the cast.
Directed by Brendan Boyle, the production features a three-person cast and was written by Ian Shaw and Joseph Nixon. The story blends comedy and drama as it looks at the human dynamics behind a well-known Hollywood production.
Performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. June 19-20 and 26-27 and 2:30 p.m. June 21 and 28. Click HERE for tickets.
