YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Five of the city’s world champion boxers will be honored with the unveiling of their markers on the Youngstown Walk of Fame in Wean Park at 5 p.m. July 5.
The ceremony will take place under the Market Street Bridge.
The five were named to the Walk of Fame last summer. They are Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini,
Kelly “The Ghost” Pavlik, Harry “Dirty Harry” Arroyo, Jeff “Prime Time” Lampkin and Greg “The Flea” Richardson.
These five athletes join Kool & the Gang, the Walk of Fame’s inaugural honorees, in receiving permanent recognition for their contributions to the city’s cultural and sports history.
Mayor Jamael Tito Brown will host the ceremony. Free parking will be available in the Covelli Centre lot.
The Food Trucks and Fireworks festival will immediately follow the ceremony. It will include vendors and a fireworks display.
This year’s Walk of Fame ceremony will introduce what will become a new tradition: custom-made official Walk of Fame club jackets, handcrafted by Downtown Youngstown’s own Private Stash Atelier. The shop on West Federal Street at Phelps Street donated its craftsmanship. Each of the boxing champions will receive a keepsake jacket.
The city also has thanked Galaxie Industrial Services for cosponsoring these commemorative pieces. Locally owned and operated, Galaxie provides cleaning solutions to manufacturers across the region.
Cash Explosion Live Coming to Covelli
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Cash Explosion Live, the Ohio Lottery show, will come to Covelli Centre on Saturday, June 14.
Admission is free, and no ticket or registration is required. Doors will open at 2 p.m., with the game starting at 2 p.m.
Eight preselected contestants and eight contestants drawn live from the audience will play for a $250,000 top prize. The show will also give away $250,000 in cash prizes to audience members throughout the taping of the show.
All prizes will be drawn from eligible Cash Explosion Entry tickets placed in the official raffle drum. Participants must be present to win.
Grizzly Bean to Feature Art by Gateways Clients
AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Starting in June, Grizzly Bean Coffee Shop, 4520 Mahoning Ave., will serve cups with sleeves featuring original artwork by individuals with developmental disabilities who are clients of Gateways to Better Living.
“This collaboration is a celebration of ability, creativity and community,” said Kristie Murphy of Gateways. “Our artists are incredibly proud to share their work, and we’re thrilled to see it appreciated in such a public and meaningful way.”
Gateways to Better Living supports adults with developmental disabilities throughout the Mahoning Valley, providing opportunities to grow, connect and thrive.
Steel Museum Offers Free Admission to Military Members
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Steel Museum – The Youngstown Historical Center of Industry & Labor – is participating in Blue Star Museums, a program that provides free admission during the summer to currently serving U.S. military personnel and their families. The 2025 program began May 17 and will end Sept. 1.
In recognition of our nation’s armed forces, YHCIL is featuring a temporary showcase on World War I and World War II. This revived display was originally created by Youngstown State University students, highlighting the region’s industrial, civic and military support during times of global conflict.
Blue Star Museums is a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, in collaboration with the Department of Defense and participating museums across America.
The free admission program is available for those currently serving in the U.S. military and up to five family members. Qualified members must show a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), DD Form 1173-1 ID card or the Next Generation Uniformed Services (Real) ID card for entrance.
JCC to Open its Logan Campus for Season
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Jewish Community Center of Youngstown will open its Logan Campus for the summer May 24.
The outdoor Logan Campus, 3245 Logan Way, offers a variety of options for JCC members and their guests, including a pool, sand volleyball, tennis, pickleball and basketball courts; a pavilion; an aquatic climbing wall; and a snack shack.
Membership to the JCC includes both the Main Campus, 505 Gypsy Lane, and the Logan Campus. A Logan Campus open house will take place June 8. Go to JCCYoungstown.org for information.
