Two restaurants that will open soon will be familiar to many Mahoning Valley residents.

C’s Waffles will open at 15 N. Canfield Niles Road (state Route 46) in Austintown, in a building that formerly housed Korea Restaurant.

A sign with the C’s Waffles name was erected outside the restaurant this week.

C’s already has locations in Boardman, North Lima and Hubbard.

Carchedi’s Cafe will reopen July 27 at its longtime location at 30 E. Water St. in Lowellville.

The restaurant had opened briefly earlier this year with limited evening hours and sold only pizza and ice cream from Cockeye Creamery.

A sign in the window states that it will reopen.

Carchedi’s Restaurant had been a mainstay in Lowellville for 55 years before it closed its dining room in 2024 and continued as a caterer.

Davis Family YMCA to Unveil Mural

BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, will celebrate two events at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 26. It will officially unveil a new mural created by YMCA board member Nils Johnson, which honors the generations of YMCA staff, members and programs that have shaped the Y’s history and strengthened the Mahoning Valley community. Over the past two years, Johnson has devoted countless early mornings to researching, sketching and painting a mural that captures the people and moments that define the YMCA’s legacy.
The unveiling will take place during the opening reception of the Cat’s Meow Art Show & Sale, presented in partnership with The Purple Cat. The exhibition showcases artwork created by artists and provides an opportunity for the community to meet the artists and purchase original artwork.

Dairy Queen Miracle Treat Day

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Dairy Queen will celebrate Miracle Treat Day on July 30.

Customers who buy a Blizzard Treat that day will help raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network. Forty-two Dairy Queens in the Youngstown region are partnering with Akron Children’s in support of the effort. 

For each Blizzard Treat purchased, $1 or more will be donated to Children’s Miracle Network to support local children’s hospitals. Through a partnership spanning more than four decades, the DQ system has contributed more than $195 million to help provide critical care, treatments and services for children and families across the U.S.
