YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Doris Kearns Goodwin, a renowned historian and author, will deliver a lecture at Stambaugh Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 25.
Goodwin has served as executive producer on multiple History Channel documentaries and consults widely on American history and presidential leadership.
Her most recent book, “An Unfinished Love Story: A Personal History of the 1960s,” was published in April.
The lecture is part of Youngstown State University’s Skeggs Lecture Series. Admission is free, but tickets must be obtained in advance at StambaughAuditorium.com or the DeYor Performing Arts Center box office.
Radio Station Switches from Sports to Classic Hits
CAMPBELL, Ohio – A Mahoning Valley radio station has flipped its format from sports to classic hits.
Bloom Broadcasting’s 1330-AM WGFT and its FM counterpart, 94.7 W234CH, revived the station’s former “Star” branding. The change took effect Monday.
The station formerly went by ESPN 84.7 sports talk.
It is owned by Karl Bloom, who delivered the format switch after a few days of a humorous “dog-themed” takeover stunt with appropriate music. WGFT had flipped from R&B to sports in April 2025 shortly after Bloom’s purchase of the station.

New Date for Eli Young Band Concert
WARREN, Ohio – The Eli Young Band concert originally scheduled for June 24 at the Robins Theatre has been rescheduled for Dec. 11.
All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the new date.
Car Show at Heritage Manor
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Adult Day Services at Heritage Manor, 517 Gypsy Lane, will present a Father’s Day classic car show from noon to 2 p.m. June 19.
The event will include food, music and prizes. Individuals with classic cars are invited to join the free event.

Marcia Levy to Discuss Movies at JCC
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – As part of its J. Newman Levy Speaker Series, the Jewish Community Center will present “Marcia Levy: Let’s Go To the Movies” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. June 22 at the JCC, 505 Gypsy Lane.
Levy, a local historian, will lead participants through cinema, exploring the stories behind favorite films with an emphasis on Jewish directors, screen writers and soundtrack composers.
