Free Comic Book Day will take place Saturday, May 3, with several shops in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys participating.

The shops will give away comic books that have been specially made for the event for a variety of age groups and preferences.

Free Comic Book Day is an industrywide effort to entice new customers.

Participating shops include All American Cards and Comics, 161 W. Market St., Warren, and 52 Boardman-Canfield Road, Boardman; Liberty Comics, 5474 Mahoning Ave., Austintown; Benson’s, 31 W. Broad St., Newton Falls; and Bennie’s, 462 Sharpsville Ave., Sharon, Pa.

DC Young Fly Coming to Powers Auditorium

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – DC Young Fly will come to Powers Auditorium on June 13 for a 7 p.m. concert. 

Tickets are now on sale at DeyorPAC.org and the DeYor Performing Arts Center box office, downtown.

The Atlanta native is a comedian, actor, host, producer and musician, and is a host on MTV’s “Wild’n Out.”

He starred in the films “House Party” and “How High 2” and is part of 85 South podcast crew, which recently released its first comedy special on Netflix, “Ghetto Legends.”

Lawrence County Coffee Club Returns

NEW CASTLE, Pa. – The Lawrence County Coffee Club is returning and will feature cup sleeves decorated by elementary school students.

The seven local coffee shops in Lawrence County represented on the trail are:

  • 3 Thirty-Three Apothecary.
  • Joseph’s Coffee Shop.
  • Mohawk Coffee House.
  • National Grind Coffee & Tea Shop.
  • Papa Gelateria.
  • Pulse Coffee Co.
  • Wampum Coffee Co.

Participants can pick up a passport at any of the locations. Each shop will stamp the passport, and when all seven shops have been visited, the holder will receive a coffee mug.

A thousand students in the county in kindergarten through fourth grade created drawings for the sleeves.

The coffee club is sponsored by Visit Lawrence County.

Sensory Suits Available at Scrappers Games 

NILES, Ohio – The Mahoning Valley Scrappers and the Rich Center for Autism will again offer a sensory suite at Eastwood Field.

The suite provides a more calming and inclusive environment for guests at every Scrappers game. Amenities include interactive play displays, sensory kits, lighting options and shades on windows to provide fans with the option of controlling their environment.

The Sensory Suite includes 12 game tickets and three parking passes for each Scrappers game. Families can request games, dates and tickets in advance, courtesy of the Rich Center. To apply, go to MVScrappers.com.

The Scrappers have also partnered with the Rich Center to create a specialty jersey that the players will wear for Autism Awareness Night on June 21. The comic strip baseball-themed jersey will celebrate the 75th anniversary of Peanuts. Game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off in person at the game and online at the Scrappers website and LiveSource.com, with proceeds benefiting the Rich Center.
