PITTSBURGH – Family fun will take place in the day at Kennywood. At 6 p.m., the park will transform into a fright zone with six haunted houses and four scream zones.

More than 30 rides, roller coasters and attractions will be open, and the park will be decorated for the season.

High School Band Night at Columbiana Stadium

COLUMBIANA, Ohio – The Columbiana Band Show will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, at Fisher Stadium in Firestone Park.

The event will feature performances by marching bands from Crestview, Southern Local, Beaver Local, East Palestine, Lisbon and Columbiana high schools, and will include the battle of the drums.

Admission is $8 ($5 for students, $4 for senior citizens, free for children under 5).

The concession stand will be open during the event, and there will be a basket raffle. Commemorative T-shirts will be for sale.

Now in its sixth year, this band showcase has become a tradition in Columbiana County, bringing together neighboring schools and families.

YSU Marching Band to Perform at Stadium

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Youngstown State University’s marching band will give a preview of its halftime show for the upcoming football season at 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at Stambaugh Stadium. Admission is free.

The performance will showcase the full ensemble, including the drumline, majorettes, flag line and all musicians.

All seating will be in the west stands. Parking will be available for a nominal fee in the M-81 surface parking lot, across from the Watson and Tressel Training Site, accessible via Service Road.

Regional Theaters Participate in America 250-Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio – As part of the America 250-Ohio celebration in 2026, Ohio Goes to the Movies will screen more than 250 Ohio-centric movies at theaters across the state.

The celebration is part of the national celebration of America’s 250th birthday.

The OGTTM team will sign up more movie venues until September.

Here is a look at some of the offerings already on the schedule at venues in the region:

  • The Robins Theatre in Warren selected “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” (2001), which was directed by Champion native Chris Columbus.
  • The Kent State University Museum in Kent features one of the world’s most important collections of fashion textiles and decorative arts, including clothing and costumes from the estate of film legend Katharine Hepburn. The museum’s current exhibition, Hepburn Style: Katharine and Her Designers, showcases three iconic costume designers who worked with Hepburn on stage and screen productions. The museum will screen the Academy Award-winning movie “The Philadelphia Story” (1940) starring Hepburn and written by Ohio screenwriter Donald Ogden Stewart. 
  • The Cedar Lee Theatre in Cleveland Heights will host “Cool Hand Luke” starring Paul Newman, who worked at the Cedar Lee in his youth. Newman’s daughter, Melissa, will introduce the movie and participate in a Q&A session afterward. In addition, she will speak at Cuyahoga County Public Library in advance of the event.
  • Steubenville’s Dean Martin Festival (organized by the Dean Martin Association) will screen hometown favorite Dean Martin’s Western “Rio Bravo” (1959). Sauder Village in Archbold will screen “The Sound of Music” (1965) with Eleanor Parker (Baroness) who was born in Cedarville and gained valuable acting experience in Cleveland.
  • Lions Lincoln Theatre in Massillon selected “Spiderman” (2002) because the movie features a cameo and music performed by Stark County native Macy Gray. 

Canfield Fair Livestock Auction Seeks Buyers

CANFIELD, Ohio – The Canfield Fair livestock auction will take place Aug. 28-29 in the Kusalaba event center on the fairgrounds.

Individuals, organizations and companies can buy  livestock to donate to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley for distribution to hungry families in Mahoning, Columbiana and Trumbull counties.

Livestock available to purchase for donation includes market beef, hogs, broilers, ducks, turkeys, goats and lambs.

Auctions will take place at 5:30 and 7 p.m. Aug. 28, and 4 and 7 p.m. Aug. 29.

Donated livestock will be processed by Winona Frozen Foods and Lehman Poultry. Processing fees will be added to the purchase price (market beef will be $1.05 per pound; hogs, $1.05 per pound; lambs and goats, $200; broilers $6; ducks, $8; and turkeys $27.
